Antonio Mendoza Antonio Mendoza, the son of Cuban exiles, was born in Miami, Florida and raised in Madrid, Spain. After receiving a degree in Semiotics from Brown University, he moved to Los Angeles where he hoped to land a job in the film industry. Instead, he landed on a friend's couch and decided that a career as an artist was more his calling. Eighteen years later, he still lives in L.A. with his wife, two children and five working computers. His art work ranges from classically inspired oil paintings to collages, lenticular images, digital projections and interactive web pages. He has exhibited in galleries and museums in Los Angeles, San Diego, Las Vegas, Houston, Zurich, Frankfurt, Karlsruhe, Sao Paolo, Seville and Madrid. His work has been reviewed by Artforum, New York Post, Newsweek, Los Angeles Times, El Pais, Glue Magazine, Axcess, Wired, and other cyber magazines. His two web sites, www.subculture.com and www.mayhem.net, combine his dual interest in art and crime. Together they log over 40,000 page impressions a day. In the year 2000 he completed a true-crime book, "Killers on the Loose," that has been published by Virgin Books. On his days off he plays music with the digital collective, Mr. Tamale. | ||
