A Tribute to On Nakayama

Originally this page was a donations/tips page for the creator of EYEZMAZE, On Nakayama; however, due to the fact that this page only exists on the wayback machine (http://www.eyezmaze.com/tip/tip_e.html), providing him with money will no longer work. In order to compensate, this page has been edited to be a thank you page for the creator of the games himself.

Nakayama produced EYEZMAZE and the games that came with it for fun, but it was difficult for him to create every idea he had while trying to make a living, so he presented this page as a tip page where you could provide him with financial support. In return he would give supporters who donated more than $5 a special gift each month, which was one of his new games.

Considering how curious you were to get here - or that you might be Nakayama himself - you've probably played some of the man's awesome games. Grow, which I believe was his earliest game, was an interesting, yet simple game in his collection that would spark two really interesting sequels. I recommend you play it in flashpoint when you finish reading this!

As for gameplay of Grow, it was very similar to other choice games like Henry Stickmin or Telltale games in that you chose the outcome. Despite their similarities, though, Grow was a much simpler game with no real objective or time limit other than to just select an option to grow! It is very relaxing, and you can get a bunch of different outcomes ranging from a giant cute blob animal to the earth itself. Seriously, I really recommend you check it out, Nakayama did a great job with it.

Another great game of his is Vanilla, which can really satisfy any urge you have to carefully grind. In this game, you need to grow a tree by clicking first on the pot it lives in, then on each fully grown segment to make it grow a little bit more. Watch out, however, because if you click too far left or right on a segment of the tree it will grow crookedly and might touch the sides of the screen, causing a game over. This game really requires time and patience, but can be fun for the right people.

Finially I shall discuss Tontie, which is one of my personal favorites. The goal of this game is to use the number pad on your keyboard to whack monsters before they disappear. It can be easy at first, but later rounds start to get really challenging. Honestly, using the keypad to hit specific spots on the screen is something that I have never really seen before, and is a really great game mechanic! It adds an extra level of immersion and challenge to the arcade-like game.

So why exactly am I discussing what I think about Nakayama\'s games in a tribute to him? Because his games show a next level kind of focus and heart put into them. Sure, you could say that about any flash developer, but this is a post on Nakayama, is it not? He put a LOT of effort into his games and they clearly show it. He worked hard creating things for others and enjoyed what he did, which is something all people should do as well in their own way.

But hey, don't stop here, go play some of his games!
