GENERAL INFORMATION

The CBIAC, operated by Battelle Memorial Institute, is a full service Department of Defense (DoD) Information Analysis Center (IAC) under contract to the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) and administratively managed by the Defense Technical Information Center (DTIC) under the DoD IAC Program Office (Contract No. SPO900-94-D-0002). Established in 1986, the CBIAC serves as the focal point for Chemical Warfare/Chemical and Biological Defense (CW/CBD) technology. Defense Link

The CBIAC serves to collect, review, analyze, synthesize, appraise and summarize information pertaining to CW/CBD. The CBIAC helps the DoD meet its demanding technological needs and implement its high-priority Research and Development (R&D) initiatives through the prompt and expert application of existing scientific and technical information by performing the following functions:

ELIGIBILITY

Inquiry and Referral Services are available to U.S. Government agencies and their contractors. Product distribution limitations are variable; refer to the individual product description for specifics.

CBIAC PRODUCTS AND SERVICES

Basic Products: The CBIAC produces a variety of multimedia products. The topics for our products are selected based on the needs expressed by our user community and represent chemical and biological defense "hot" areas. CBIAC products are available on the following subject areas:

Information Products and Services: The CBIAC has a collection of over 23,000 Chemical Warfare/Chemical and Biological Defense (CW/CBD) related documents, books, videotapes and magnetic diskettes from domestic as well as foreign sources on the premises. The CBIAC also maintains a collection and on-line access to journals, magazines and newsletters pertaining to CW/CBD topics or information processing technology.

Technical Area Tasks (TATs): TATs are analytical and technical nature work efforts that are above and beyond the basic IAC products and services. TATs provide valuable Research and Development (R&D) support to the Chemical Warfare/Chemical and Biological Defense (CW/CBD) technical community, as well as provide for the preparation of specialized products and services. TATs expand access to and increase useability of the CBIAC information base; provide a means to develop specialized information collections; foster awareness of the importance of CW/CBD information; improve the capabilities of U.S. forces; and assist the acquisition community in the exploitation of CW/CBD information.

Inquiry and Referral Services: The CBIAC responds to questions from U.S. Government Agencies and their contractors that are within the CBIAC technical scope. In responding to an inquiry, the CBIAC staff has access to Battelle wide analytical support, equipment and facilities, technical area experts and extensive library resources. Inquiries handled by the CBIAC fall into four basic categories: Bibliographic Inquiries, Technical Inquiries, General Information and Referrals.
