Leon the Chameleon’s Math Dojo

Leon the Chameleon’s Math Dojo builds mental computation skills through an engaging arcade style game.

Many elementary school mathematics programs follow the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics Standards (NCTM).  According to the NCTM Standard, Number and Operations, children should develop fluency in adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing whole numbers.  Leon the Chameleon’s Math Dojo promotes efficient learning of mental computation and fluency in basic arithmetic combinations.

As kids play the game, they use their mental computational skills and knowledge of basic arithmetic facts.  Throughout the game, Leon’s animated martial arts moves provide engaging reinforcement.  To support the development of speed and fluency, the game is timed; however, kids do have the option of playing an untimed version where they can practice and expand their skills.  Playing Leon the Chameleon’s Math Dojo helps kids develop reasoning skills, gain mathematical insight and build confidence in their ability to do mathematics.

The "Did You Know That…?" area exposes kids to various educational facts about chameleons and martial arts.  If the "Read It To Me" button is selected, that same information is spoken and kids can follow along as each word is highlighted.

Kids can practice each math area repeatedly.  When a game is over, they can view their scores for immediate feedback. Kids have a great time playing Leon the Chameleon’s Math Dojo and as they do, build their mental computation skills too!
