BackgroundThis game is a simplified simulation of a country's struggle to balance population growth and infrastructure demands. As of Feb 2013, the White Paper on population policy is heavily debated in the Parliament in Singapore. Heavyweights in the current government, the PAP, are proposing to ramp up the infrastructure to prepare for a worst case scenario of 6.9 million people. Opposition parties have countered that the plan will trivialise the Singapore core as pro-immigration policies will bring more and more foreigners in to the country. |
MessageThe message is clear here - poor infrastructure planning leads to very very "jia lat" (singlish for very bad) living conditions when you cram more and more people into the city/country. The right balance needs to be struck so that the people can live well and the country can grow well. The game makes no assumption on the right magic number of what the population of Singapore should be. It, however, calls on the population planners not to sacrifice the needs of the people with blind economic growth. |
