Why does the innkeeper feel this way? Do you agree?

No I do not agree. The chief advisor prepares all the letters and the king does not get to look at them.
Shill, CA, Age 9

No, there was only one weak king. And the kings after him thought him as wise and followed him.
Silpa, MA, Age 18

Yes I agree with him. Kings have too much power as it is. And with the belt there is no telling what he will do next.
Andrew, TX, Age 10

The man that becomes king may be selfish and weak. But maybe if Deltora had a queen instead you would change your mind about having a ruler?
Rachel, LA, Age 12

Because the illusion was blocking what the town really looked like and they didn't do anything about the problems the town was having. No, I do not agree with the way the innkeeper feels.
Kevin, PA, Age 9

The innkeeper feels this way because the king does not protect the people outside the palace. Yes, I agree.
Leif, WA, Age 10

Deltora must have another King. Endon will be a strong King.
Robert, NY, Age 9

I do not agree because without a king and belt we will be in danger.
Mathew, CA, Age 10

Because the king thinks the town beyond the gate is fine. But it is really run down and poor. No I don't agree because we need to be protected from the shadow lord.
Jason, TX, Age 11

If we didn't have kings this place would be wild! And besides, I bet you wouldn't even be able to run the Inn without a king around. And tell me how you would buy food without a king?
Carly, WA, Age 11

No I think Deltora needs another king. I mean, who wants the Shadowlord to be a king? Not me!
Cody, CO, Age 9

The other kings of Deltora only put on the belt once then took it off. So I agree with the innkeeper.
Darren, IN, Age 11

The king now knows what happens beyond the walls so if we defeat the Shadow Lord we will live better than ever before.
Jimmy, PA, Age 12

He feels this way because all of the kings in the past had been deceived and had never known the truth, so the kings had never stopped to help the city people. I don't agree because they are making an assumption that they shouldn't make
Pat, CA, Age 9

I think it needs another king that is strong and caring that watches his city with great care.
Paul, WA, Age 12

He doesn't want another selfish king to make things worse. I agree with him. YES!
Candi, TX, Age 16

A good king with the power of the belt behind him should do everything in his power to protect his people.
Jacob, TX, Age 14

He feels this way because the king let them suffer. But I do not agree because the king was blinded by the Shadow Lord's magic.
Ry-Guy, GA, Age 9

The innkeeper feels this way because the people were treated unfairly in the past. I do not agree, the kings did grow weak, but they did not know what was happening.
Rachel, FL, Age 13

The innkeeper feels this way because all the recent Kings of Deltora had been foolish to leave all decisions concerning his people to others. They did not look after the people. I think they do need a new King to defeat the Shadow Lord. The new King will have learned from his father's mistakes. I believe he will rule as Adin did long ago.
Thomas, VA, Age 8

He feels the kings were all lazy and made everyone else do their work and fighting for them and they just took the credit. No, I do not agree some kings were good.
Sir Jonathan, PA, Age 10

The king was deceived by the Shadow Lord. If he can mend his ways Deltora will flourish.
Bob, AL, Age 12

I think we have to find the Belt of Deltora or else the Shadow Lord will take over the land of Deltora!
Ryan, other, Age 9

I disagree because if the belt is not worn by the king's heir Del will be over-taken by the Shadow Lord!
Chris, NH, Age 8

We need to show the kings the error of their ways by showing them the evil lurking in the Shadowlands. Then maybe the kings will wear the belt forever.
Colin, FL, Age 10

Because nothing ever came out good from the past kings. Really I don't know if he's right or not.
Dwayne, MA, Age 8

The chief advisors were servants of the shadow lord. They deceived the kings.
Justin, TX, Age 9

I disagree because if Deltora has no leader no-one will protect it.
Alex, NY, Age 9

I agree. The innkeeper is right. Most of the kings were too weak and played as fools by Prandine who secretly served the Shadow Lord.
Christos, NH, Age 8

No. It was the Belt that they needed to survive. They didn't have the power to be ruler without the Belt.
Matt, TX, Age 12

It will do loads of good. The shadow lord is full of evil. Deltora was not created to be evil. And perhaps it'll be a new government, perhaps the king will set up a democracy.
David, UT, Age 9

No, because if we didn't have kings and queens nobody would follow the rules or know what the rules are.
KR, IL, Age 8

I agree. If someone finds the Belt, the Kings are going to be even more weak and more selfish.
Toni, MI, Age 11

He feels this way because the other kings probably didn't keep the land of Deltora from the evil Shadow Lord.
Matthew, NY, Age 11

Because the people of Deltora were eating "kitchen scraps" from the palace, and they couldn't get hold of the King.
Annie, OH, Age 10

The inkeeper is unaware of the history of The Belt of Deltora, because of this, I find that I must disagree with him. I believe that restoring the Belt would do a great deal. The blacksmith, Adin, created the belt long, long, ago, thus uniting the Tribes of Deltora and driving back the Enemy of the Shadowlands. I believe he was a powerful leader because he wore the Belt of Deltora. The Belt of Deltora gave him the power of all the jewels, thus ensuring his long and prosperous rule.
Hunter, PA, Age 13

No because everyone could go out of control without a king.
Jessica, UT, Age 11

I agree! If the other kings were mean, weak and selfish, why do you think this one will be any different?
Jasmine, PA, Age 10
