This activity was created as a sample interactive educational activity for the Ocean Conservation Society.
One project by the OCS is the Los Angeles Dolphin Project,
a long-term study of the marine mammals in the Los Angeles coastal waters.
The activity is part of an introduction to photo identification techniques.
The activity presents an image of Santa Monica Bay. The user moves a camera
over Santa Monica Bay as a patterned flow of dolphin are moving in the bay.
The dolphin icons can only be seen when they are in visual range of the
camera. (This is indicated by circles around the camera.)
When the user clicks the mouse the camera takes a picture. If there was a dolphin icon in view, the slide that is taken shows a dolphin.
The program displays 10 individual photos and and logs the time, date, and location of the sighting.
