There are so many wonderful things to enjoy in Disney•Pixar’s Coco, including the amazingly colorful alebrijes, like Pepita, who live in the Land of the Dead. In the Land of the Dead, alebrijes (modeled after the traditional Mexican folk art of the same name) serve as spirit guides for the people living there. We recently spoke to Coco co-directors Adrian Molina and Lee Unkrich about the film, and during the interview they revealed that their alebrijes are actually in the movie!
