Fishy Fractions The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics Standards identify the knowledge and skills that children should obtain in mathematics instruction from kindergarten through twelfth grade. For grades K-4, curriculum Standard 12 describes what children should learn about fractions and decimals. Developing concepts of fractions and mixed numbers as well as developing number sense of fractions are two key components of this standard. For grades 5-8, several curriculum standards include references to fractions, including Standard 7 which emphasizes computation. Fishy Fractions is an arcade-style game. It offers a fun way to apply and review fractions concepts and also helps kids sharpen their mental computation skills. Fishy Fractions has thirteen problem sets covering a range of topics such as • matching fractions to their written names, • comparing fractions (>,<), • equivalent fractions, • matching fractions to their equivalent decimals, •
adding
fractions with like and unlike denominators, • subtracting fractions with like and unlike denominators, • adding mixed numbers, • subtracting mixed numbers, and more! In each round of the game, kids answer problems by helping Ulani the pelican catch fish. Scores increase with each round that's completed. And, there are bonus games along the way too! Your kids can play Fishy Fractions with each topic over and over again. They'll love practicing fractions math with this engaging activity! |
