This LiveMath notebook explores the algebraic derivative of a function. Change part or all of the function and watch the algebra update. A notebook such as this also makes a great handout. Print one version, then change the function and print another. The last few steps could also be collapsed and the rest left to the student as an exercise. Embedded into a PowerPoint presentation, this notebook or a similar one makes a lecture for a larger group much more easily read than handwriting on the board.
